Latest News

Just to update you about a few things from our committee meeting last week:

  • We are looking into the parking issue at the main Whitford gate and how dangerous it can be for members to pull off into the car park plus at peak times, there is minimal parking.  Investigation into creating a bigger car park has been done and unfortunately the paper road we thought might be able to be considered for extra parking, is no longer a paper road.
  • Please take care pulling in and out of the car park and also please park close to each other to allow more cars in there at peak times and avoid parking in front of the gate which say’s No Parking.  Remember not to leave anything in your car… even the boot!
  • As mentioned previously Maraetai forest will remain closed until at least the end of the year when logging may then start in Whitford on a pa site next summer.  We’ll let you know when we hear anything.
  • Callum met with forestry management recently and was advised that anyone caught riding in Maraetai forest will be prosecuted.  Please note that the access road to Wild Turkey (at the back of Whitford) has a gate up and they would like us all to keep out.  Maintenance crews work in the evenings/weekends and forest management are concerned there could be an accident if bikers are on the road. Accident = OSH involvement = big trouble for club.
  • The trackbuilders are not working in Whitford at the moment however Callum is planning some more tracks in Whitford and if these go ahead, they’ll be back.
  • We are very grateful to the following sponsors who have helped fund new tracks in Whitford:

Whitford Charitable Community Trust

ASB Community Trust

Auckland Council Facility Funding

Expedio

Clevedon Village Medical Centre

Pub Charity

NZ Community Trust

Whitehouse Tavern

Bluesky Community Trust

Grassroots Trust

Plus we have donations also coming in from members/public.  Thank you to you all.

Our financial accounts will be available at the AGM which is being planned for April.  Date tbc.

  • This last membership year has seen the club grow to 500 members (includes families).  Discussion was made at the meeting about increasing our subs this coming year.  It was agreed to increase them to $50 for single or $100 for family.  (This is to help with funding some more tracks being planned in Whitford in an area which have young pines meaning long term tracks).
  • New permit stickers for this new membership year are being printed and we are looking at also providing car stickers for your car.
  • Finally, Congratulations to PCBC  members Jessica and Jemma Manchester for their wins at the Oceania Champs in Toowoomba last week.  Awesome!

That’s it for now.

PCBC News

Just to update you on club news, we’ve just heard that Maraetai forest is now going to remain closed for most of 2015.  (bummer)
Forestry management have had some unforeseen delays getting back into Whitford so they have made the call to carry on with finishing the logging in Maraetai.

So… Callum is planning some working bees over autumn.  Keep an eye on our FB page for details.

WHAT’S HAPPENING:
  • Don’t forget the Tuesday night rides at 6.15pm meeting at Waikopua Rd entrance.
  • Ladies rides (Spokeswomen) – these are organised weekly rides on Fridays and the odd weekend. 17 ladies turned up last Friday to ride in Whitford!  Go to:  https://pcbc.co.nz/ladies-rides/  for contact details.  Keep an eye on the FB page.

Finally well done to all those club members who competed in the Nationals over the weekend.  Some made the podium which is fantastic, however I’d like to acknowledge everyone who entered – it was hot and dusty and a big achievement just to finish both xc & dh.  Congrats to you all. (There were also a few injuries so I would like to wish them a speedy recovery.)

Check out a vid of the dh track here:

Maraetai Forest Remains Closed

We’ve just got word from Forestry Management today that they have had a few glitches with their application to harvest a Pa site in Whitford so they will remain logging in Maraetai forest until it is resolved.  (How long will that be?  – How long is a piece of string?)  We’ll let you know as soon as we hear anything.

Social Rides

Hi Everyone.
The silly season is over and I hope you’ve all managed to get a few rides in.  If not, then read on.  One of the club members, Dan Scott, has kindly agreed to organise a weekly ride for anyone who would like to ride in Whitford with others.

Details are:

Tuesday 27th January @ 6.15pm and every Tuesday same time, same place thereafter.
Starting at the Waikopua Road entrance.
All welcome at intermediate level and above with a reasonable fitness level, if enough people on subsequent nights we can probably split into social and faster group.
Let me know if you need any other details. My number is 021 359 282.

Thanks.
Dan Scott

Website Down

Our website was hacked into just before Christmas.  We do apologise for the inconvenience.  In the process we have lost some of the content and will endeavour to get more information online again over the next couple of months.

Maraetai Forest Open

Maraetai Forest has opened over the holiday period but will close again 5th January for logging.  We are hoping late January early February it will reopen again for riders until mid winter.

Our track builders are currently working in there to clear the remaining tracks and plan new ones in the logged areas. Culgiagoncountte .
