There will be tree planters working in the forest this week. Please take care when riding or walking in the forest.
In the summer forestry will need to get back into the Maraetai block to log the last stand of pines on the western side of the block. It will take 4-6 weeks. We were hoping to have some form of access during that time just like we were hoping to have some form of access to Whitford now. Unfortunately due to idiots like this guy, who must have climbed over the gate with two “Keep Out” signs on it at Whitford today this is not going to be possible as forestry cant trust us.
Forestry have installed more cameras and today were staking out the Whitford carparks. This guy has been reported to police. It’s the same group as the past time..
WHITFORD IS CLOSED. If you ride there you will get caught by Forestry management camera’s and your details will be sent to the police. You put the whole club at risk by riding there. These people were in there on Sunday, by the harvesting site. Do you know them?
Massive thanks to New Zealand Community Trust for their super generous support of $20 000 towards our 2019 Maraetai rebuild project. Watch this space for updates.
Tunnel Vision – the top half is cleared so the whole track is good to ride. Part of the winter trail building plan is is to start this track from the container and give it a general tidy up.
Sweet As – is all cleared, thanks to Mike and Jessie for their work.
Bionic Wasp – as awesome as ever. The tree you have to duck down for seems even lower…be careful.
We still need to clear lower half of Ground Effect (this isl another track that will start eventually from container and get an overhaul this winter -but still maintain it’s fast semi DH/park feel.
Sweet Screams – (between Sweet as and Screamers) needs clearing-any volunteers?
Inside Out – winter project for anyone who wants a grade 5 slow technical track.
Expect a lot of weed die-off in the coming weeks as a result of spraying.
We are stoked to have one of our original sponsors, the NZ mountain bike clothing company Ground Effect back on board. If you’re in the market for some sweet new gear make sure you support the people that support us. They will be funding the rebuild of the track….Ground Effect!
This Sunday is the last day that you can use your 2018/2019 membership before it expires, If you have renewed your membership – good on you, if not – get onto it !!! To join the club go to:
Please note there will be 2-3 weeks lag time to receive your membership stickers, as we have yet to receive the stickers. So as soon as they arrive, I will start posting them out. For those that joined in the month of March, your membership has been swapped over to the 2019/2020 membership. If you have joined and paid, you are now members so can use the forest.
Thanks to all the volunteers that have helped out so far with clearing tracks. We will have a working bee coming up on Sunday 7th so make sure you head along and help out (details to follow), the quicker we get the tracks cleared and entrances/exits rebuilt, the quicker ya all can ride them.
