Level 2

Level 2 comes with two rules in the forest

  1. Adhere to the social distancing requirements under level 2
  2. Use QR code when entering the forest.

Shuttles will restart on Thursday evenings when we are back to level 1.

We are in level 3 peoples

We have three simple rules if you want to ride in the forest during level 3:

  1. Everyone must scan our QR code before entering (will be put up at entrance of Rewa Road and Okaroro Roads – there will be one at the container for those that forget when entering).
  2. Only bike with people in your bubble; and
  3. Practice social distancing.

Be safe out there….

Help Needed

We need your help!! The whole aim of the club it to get people mountain biking. In general we do this with the Field of Dreams mantra ‘If you build it, they will come’ . However sometimes you need a bit of affirmative action…So this year one of our big projects is getting the three core target groups out riding-that is teens, females and those from a socioeconomic/cultural background that would normally not have the opportunity to ride. So along with Manurewa High School, Torpedo 7 and the Tu Manawa Active Aotearoa Trust we are getting 20 wicked Trek Marlin 5 bikes, plus all the associated helmets, locks, spares, tools etc. and getting 20 young woman from the school into riding. The Torpedo 7 mechanics will be teaching them how to look after their bikes and, with the help of some great PCBC volunteer female coach’s, we will show them how to ride some sick lines! At the end of the 3 month course the girls get to keep the bikes!! How cool is that!!!

The Tu Manawa trust has donated $12,000 but the cost of the project is $15,000 so we are $3000 short. If you in a position whereby you can afford a 2021 charity donation and are looking for something a bit different then consider this! For $600 a teen gets a bike, $50 a helmet, $20 a lock and $15 a multitool. Donations to charity are tax deductible – we will send you a receipt.

So…if this sounds like you and you want to change a life then our bank account is 38-9010-0141975-00 Pohutukawa Coast Bike Club, put the reference as Tu Manawa, and flick us an email so we can send you a receipt pohutukawabike@gmail.com.

No Shuttles Tonight

Last Thursday our clutch went in the van so it has been at the work shop getting a new HD clutch installed so it can lug our lazy ar$%s up the hill. It should be operational for next week!!

From now on we will be using shuttle passes. $20 for 6 runs or $50 for 18 runs. You can either pay for a pass via bank deposit and show proof of purchase to the driver on the day or bring cash on the day (correct amount please). No pay no play.

Our bank account details are: Pohutukawa Coast Bike Club Incorporated. 38-9010-0141975-00

Just a reminder that you need to be a club member to be in the forest or you can purchase a day pass from GAS Maraetai – shuttle passes do not include a day pass.

PCBC MTB Academy Rego’s

Woah!!! UPDATE!! Our term one registrations filled up in just one day. We are working hard to find more coaches to accommodate more riders. In the meantime, if you missed out please send us an email at pcbcmtbacademy@gmail.com and we will put you on the wait list. If you are a parent able to volunteer please get in touch via email. Thanks all and see you soon!

Registrations are open for the PCBC academy for 2021. PCBC MTB Academy group sizes are limited. Please register as soon as possible to avoid missing out (only 11 spots remain).

We are in desperate need for a coach. If anyone is interested or able to coach a group on Tuesday nights 5-7pm, please get in touch. No need for a professional coach, we just need capable riders who are able to lead a group. OR, if you know someone who would be available to volunteer and wants to get out through a coaching programme (expenses paid!) please put them in touch.

Thanks to the 170 people who entered the Funduro event on 29th November. The day started with some rain which made the first stages of the day pretty slippy. There was so much mud, bent derailleurs for some but there were also smiles. The rain eased and the wind picked up enough to start drying out the trails to make for some epic riding conditions.

After the race there was a BBQ cranking, chilled beer from Deep Creek Brewing Company, pizza plus some great yarns about how the day went.

Unfortunately we did have an issue with our timing and that is still being worked on by onetime. We had some pretty solid riders out there so we were super keen to see who took the win ... Hopefully Onetime can work out the problem!!

I would like to say a big thank you to the marshals for roughing it out there in the elements and a big thank you to our Sponsors:
MEC for the great prizes,
Deep Creek Brewery for the beer and t-shirts,
Clif bar for the before race treats and
Seat saver for the spot prizes.

All and all it was an epic day and the smiles afterwards said it all!!

Forest Closed for Event

The forest will be closed this coming Sunday 29th November 2020 for the Funduro event. You will be able to access the forest however after 4pm.

If riding in the forest on Saturday, from 10am we will be in their setting up for the race so there will be vehicles driving around. There will be tape closing some tracks so please respect this and DO NOT pull the tape off to use the track. Just avoid those tracks please.

If you are racing this Sunday have an awesome time and we will see you up there. If you are not racing there is 1 entry left in the 7-stage and 3 left in the mini but they will not last long.
